Community Keg House

2016-01-09 13.22.58Last night was the opening for the Community Keg House in the historic Grain Belt building complex in Northeast, Minneapolis. The place was packed to standing room only, and everyone was enjoying the beer, food, and art. The space turned out great, and I am happy to be one of the artists that was invited to show some work. It was a great experience and I am looking forward to going back often!

First Commission, First Plaque

Over the holidays I was asked by a friend to produce a painting for a poem he had written for his girlfriend. This was also a first for me, not creating a painting to accompany a poem, but creating a painting to accompany a poem written by someone else!

Now, this is the inverse to traditional ekphrastic poetry being that the poem typically follows the painting. However, it is closer to the traditional model as the painting and poem are created independently of each other (each piece created by a different individual). None the less, it was an enjoyable experience, and it lead to an opportunity to visually pair poem and painting together. We were able to do this by getting a wood ‘plaque’ laser engraved with the poem (working as kind of a frame/visual accompaniment). I like how it turned out, and will be showing a few more pieces like this coming up shortly.
